Takahe

I saw one of these on Saturday - there are only just under 300 left in the world. Thought to be extinct until the 1940s.

They are ginormous big parrot type birds. Kinda like pukekos but not as dumbass.

Where did you see a Takahe? I like pukeko, they *are* so silly.

Went to Kapiti Island! It's really very cool. We saw bellbirds, tuis, north island robins, takahe, wekas, kakarikis, those fat silly pigeons (woodpigeons?), fantails, and someone even saw a saddleback! It's a really cool trip I'd recommend it.

What an odd looking bird. I've never heard of it before, but it certainly is beautiful.
